Google announced on Wednesday (8) a new artificial intelligence-based video editing feature aimed at subscribers of its AI services. This tool allows users to modify recordings saved in Google Photos using commands written in natural language.
Video Remix Features
Known as Video Remix, this feature utilizes the Gemini Omni model to make visual alterations to existing videos. The novelty was launched for users in the United States and other regions selected by the company. The main objective is to simplify edits that previously required specialized software, offering automatic methods to change visual aspects of the footage in seconds.
How to use the new editor
Video Remix can be accessed through the Create tab, which is the section of Google Photos dedicated to content generation. In this area, users can find various pre-configured templates that serve as a starting point for transforming their videos. Options include applying a watercolor style, enhancing the clarity of a dark scene, or changing the setting of a shot to a different environment.
According to Google, processing is completed in just a few seconds after the user submits the request, allowing the artificial intelligence to make adjustments without the need for mastery of conventional editing tools.
Technology behind the feature
The new tool is powered by Gemini Omni, a model that Google introduced in May of this year. The company positioned this technology as an evolution primarily focused on video manipulation and creation. The model has the capacity to interpret a wider range of inputs and better understand physical attributes present in scenes, such as effects related to movement and gravity, which contributes to more realistic results.
Additionally, the system supports inserting the user themselves into videos via a specific digital avatar for this purpose. This feature uses the SynthID watermark, which was also developed by Google.
Availability and access
The launch of Video Remix occurred on July 8, 2026, for customers with Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra plans. The initial distribution covers the United States and certain markets selected by the corporation. The introduction of this tool expands the presence of artificial intelligence functionalities within Google Photos, focusing on automating editing processes that historically required technical knowledge of specific programs.
