Uzbekistan is entering the most intense heat period of the year. Despite a relatively cool start to July, a rapid rise in air temperature is predicted in the coming days, with the second half of the month expected to be noticeably hotter than the long-term climate norm.
July is traditionally the peak of summer heat in Uzbekistan. The average daily temperature usually ranges between 35°C and 37°C, while in southern and desert regions, values from 38°C to 40°C are regularly recorded. Periods of abnormal heat occur almost every year, raising thermometers to 40°C–42°C, and in some places—to 43°C–45°C.
Meteorologists note that the frequency of days with extremely high temperatures across the republic has been steadily increasing in recent years. Every July over the last decade has exceeded the climate norm, and nine of them have made the top ten hottest Julys in local meteorological records.
According to preliminary short-term models, by the end of the first ten days of the month, daytime temperatures will reach 37°C–40°C, with highs of 41°C–43°C expected in the southern regions. For the remainder of the month, temperatures will fluctuate between 33°C and 43°C, although local peaks may reach 45°C in northern, desert, and southern territories.
The average temperature for July is forecast to be 1.5°C–3°C above seasonal averages. Rainfall is expected to be significantly below historical averages; brief, isolated rains and thunderstorms are possible only in certain foothill and mountainous areas.
Due to the intensifying heatwave, public health specialists advise citizens to avoid being under direct sunlight during peak daytime heat hours, maintain adequate hydration, and wear light clothing along with protective headwear. Special caution should be exercised when caring for children, the elderly, and individuals with chronic illnesses, who are most vulnerable to conditions of extremely high temperatures.
