Iranian Red Crescent sends aid groups to Iraq for the funeral of the deceased Leader

The Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) and the Ministry of Health have prepared their services to provide medical care and humanitarian support to mourners who will participate in the mourning procession following the death of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. The procession is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday in the holy cities of Iraq—Najaf and Karbala, respectively.

Medical and Humanitarian Aid

According to an ISNA report, IRCS, together with its medical units in these two cities, as well as the Iraqi Red Crescent Society, will provide necessary medical care to participants. Furthermore, IRCS has dispatched aid groups to the border regions of both countries, some of which are responsible for providing psychological support to the bereaved.

Ministry of Health Readiness

The Ministry of Health has also announced its readiness to provide medical services during the ceremonies. Medical teams, ambulances, and rescue vehicles have been dispatched to serve the mourners along the entire route.

Context of Mourning

The leader and some members of his family died as a result of a US strike on Israel on February 28. Official mourning events began on Saturday morning at the Grand Imam Khomeini Mosque in Tehran, where an unprecedented number of mourners gathered to bid farewell to the leader whose life and legacy have shaped the Islamic Republic for over three decades. The funeral ceremony for the Leader is scheduled for Monday in the holy city of Qom, where prayers will be held. The procession will travel to Iraq on July 8 at the request of Iraqi tribes, scholars, as well as religious and political figures.
