Transport and logistics cooperation is transforming into the main structural factor in deepening trade and economic ties between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan. According to a statement by the Deputy Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan, Khurram Teshabaev, in an interview with Report.az, the set of measures within the Middle Corridor covers maritime logistics, railway transport, port infrastructure, and multimodal delivery chains.
Khurram Teshabaev noted that the Baku International Seaport already plays a key role in providing Uzbek products access to external markets. He emphasized that cargo volumes along this route have been growing steadily in recent years, and the range of exported products is expanding.
The joint logistics projects include several interconnected areas. Firstly, there are plans to create a joint logistics center at the Port of Baku, which will ensure cargo consolidation, multimodal transshipment, and accelerated customs clearance. Secondly, the formation of a joint venture between Uztemiriyulcargo JSC and CJSC Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company is envisaged, as well as the creation of a joint fleet in the Caspian Sea.
The third area involves implementing comprehensive tariff solutions and providing transit discounts specifically for Uzbek exporters. The strategic importance of these projects is significantly increasing due to the implementation of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway route. According to Teshabaev's forecasts, this railway corridor will substantially increase cargo flow from China and Central Asia towards the Caspian region, turning the Port of Baku into a vital transit hub on the way to Europe.
The Deputy Minister concluded that these projects are viewed not only as a bilateral undertaking but also as an important element of the emerging Eurasian transport architecture aimed at strengthening ties between Asia and Europe.
