Two KC-390 model aircraft belonging to the Portuguese Air Force are preparing for departure to Venezuela.
A total of 450 tons of materials were transported using three Boeing 747-400s and two more cargo planes, preparing for the arrival of the Rolex 6 Hours of São Paulo, the Brazilian stage of the World Endurance Championship (WEC).
The equipment for the Rolex 6 Hours of São Paulo, which will take place from July 10 to 12 at the Interlagos Circuit, entered through the International Airport of Viracopos, located in Campinas, São Paulo. Between Thursday (2) and Saturday (4), the cargo terminal received five cargo flights dedicated to transporting the vehicles and infrastructure of the competition.
The logistics operation moved approximately 450 tons of material and was managed by Sax Logistics, with support from the Cargo Terminal (TECA) teams, the Aeroportos Brasil Viracopos concessionaire, and customs authorities. The cargo included Hypercar class prototypes, GT cars (LMGT3), and all technical accessories for the pits, such as tires, electronic components, and high-precision tools. The first three flights, carried by the Boeing 747-400s, landed during the early mornings of Thursday and Friday, while the other two aircraft arrived on Saturday.
After landing in São Paulo, the items were transferred by land, in several trucks, to the Interlagos Circuit, the location of the race. This movement required careful planning to ensure agility in the customs clearance process and the quick forwarding of the cargo to the circuit, ensuring everything was ready for the practice sessions and the race itself. Maria Fan, commercial director of Viracopos, stated that this operation demonstrates the terminal's capability to handle large-scale logistical demands.
The WEC is distinguished from races focused solely on speed because it demands extreme endurance from both drivers and machines. The main challenge is not only to finish the course in the shortest possible time but also to maintain competitiveness over several hours of racing, managing factors such as fuel consumption, tire wear, and mechanical reliability. Competitions in this category can last from six to twenty-four hours, as exemplified by the traditional 24 Hours of Le Mans in France, while the contest in Interlagos will last for six hours.
The category is organized by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) and the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO) and brings together major manufacturers such as Toyota, Ferrari, Porsche, and BMW, who use the tracks as testing grounds to develop technologies that may eventually be applied to common automobiles. Being the only stage of the championship in South America, the São Paulo race is expected to feature about 14 manufacturers and over 30 cars in the Hypercar and LMGT3 classes, including Brazilian drivers such as Augusto Farfus and Dudu Barrichello in LMGT3. The championship calendar also includes circuits such as Le Mans, Spa-Francorchamps, and Fuji, and Brazil's participation in the World Championship resumed in 2024 after a period of absence.
