L&T Vyoma, a division of Larsen & Toubro specializing in sovereign Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital infrastructure, has partnered with the American data security company Fortanix. The goal of this collaboration is to offer secure data and AI services for government agencies and enterprises in India.
Partnership Details and Technology
Under this agreement, L&T Vyoma will provide sovereign AI infrastructure, which includes data centers, computing power, and network equipment. In turn, Fortanix will ensure the security of data and AI workloads during processing using NVIDIA Confidential Computing technology.
The company stated that this cooperation will enable organizations to safely implement modern data and AI services while guaranteeing the protection of confidential information and compliance within India's borders.
Executive Comments
Prashant Chiranjeev Jain, Managing Director of L&T Vyoma, noted that India's digital economy requires a robust foundation of sovereign infrastructure and secure AI capabilities. He emphasized that the partnership with Fortanix will help organizations confidently utilize AI while keeping data within national boundaries and adhering to the highest standards of security and compliance.
Anand Kashyap, Co-founder and CEO of Fortanix Inc., added that while AI adoption is not slowing down, organizations face a growing challenge in balancing innovation, data sovereignty, and security. He reported that the partnership with L&T Vyoma combines trusted infrastructure and Confidential Computing, allowing Indian enterprises to deploy AI without exposing sensitive data or intellectual property.
Benefits of Confidential Computing
The companies explained that traditional security systems protect data at rest or in transit, but they can remain vulnerable during processing. Confidential Computing technology closes this gap by using hardware-based Trusted Execution Environments to isolate sensitive information during computation. This reduces the risk of leakage of proprietary AI models, intellectual property, and sensitive data belonging to businesses or citizens.
AI Ecosystem Development
According to the press release, confidential AI capabilities will be integrated into L&T Vyoma's AI Factory model. This system will allow organizations to deploy AI models without revealing their own intellectual property, verify trusted computing environments, and meet regulatory requirements for data sovereignty. Both companies plan to jointly develop solutions for sovereign AI and data security, as well as explore joint sales opportunities in regulated industries. Furthermore, they intend to work with clients through proof-of-concept and value projects. L&T Vyoma will also facilitate interaction with developers of Indian AI models as part of efforts to build a domestic sovereign AI ecosystem.
