Professor Taole Mokoena, the Health Ombudsman, is holding a briefing for media representatives to present the results of a joint investigation into a series of deaths among healthcare workers in public health facilities in KwaZulu-Natal.
Reasons for the investigation
A representative of the Health Ombudsman, Ricardo Makhalankanye, stated that this briefing took place after the investigation began. It was initiated in response to complaints from the Ministry of Health, led by Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi, as well as from the former Chairperson of the Health Committee, Dr. Sibongiseni Dhlomo.
Context and objectives
The investigation was conducted amid widespread public concern and numerous media reports regarding the loss of medical professionals in the province. According to Makhalankanye, during the briefing, the Health Ombudsman will present the main findings of the investigation and outline relevant recommendations.
