The Delhi government has completed preparations for the launch of its most ambitious program—the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana. The online registration portal is ready, and eligibility criteria have also been established. Under this scheme, women from low-income families will receive 2500 rupees monthly, which will be transferred directly to their bank accounts via the DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) mechanism.
Program Launch Timeline
The Cabinet decided on this program in March 2025, and 5110 crore rupees were allocated in the budget for 2026–27. Although it was initially planned that the registration portal would open around June 2026, the official start is now expected on August 28, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan.
Conditions for Receiving Aid
The Delhi government has defined the conditions for participating in the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana. The main requirements include that only one woman per family can benefit. Priority will be given to women who possess ration cards. It is anticipated that approximately 20–22 million women will benefit from this program.
Required Documents and Exclusions
To apply for the allowance, documents such as an Aadhaar Card (with a linked mobile number), a bank passbook (linked to Aadhaar), proof of residence (such as a driver's license or ration card), an Income Certificate, and a passport-sized photograph are required. The application process is conducted entirely online. The Delhi government states that this initiative will provide financial support to women from poor and middle-class backgrounds, enabling them to more easily cover expenses for themselves and their families. It should be noted that this is a promise made by the Indian National Party, which is now being implemented. Exact application dates and full guidelines will be published after the portal opens.
