Residents of Mirabad district in Tashkent have created a video appeal expressing disagreement with plans to build a new facility on the site of the only playground in the courtyard.
History and Condition of the Area
According to local residents, the area where children spent time for many decades was fenced off for the construction of a structure unrelated to social infrastructure. This courtyard has a long history as it is part of a former military town, which traditionally had a common area for recreation and play.
The plot, measuring approximately 40 by 55 meters and previously serving as a green space for children, is now almost entirely surrounded by a fence. Residents note that there was always a football field available to everyone here, but now the entire area is blocked off, and there are no alternative playgrounds nearby, forcing children to look for places to play in other courtyards.
Residents' Demands and Legal Support
The construction fence occupies a significant portion of the space, covering about 80–90% of the area that long functioned as a public space. Lawyer Viktoria Sharmakovskaya supported the appeal, emphasizing that the planned object does not belong to social infrastructure and will not benefit the residents of the district.
Local inhabitants insist on preserving the courtyard as a public space, rather than turning it into another closed construction site. They expect the relevant competent authorities to conduct an inspection and assess the legality of placing this object on public land. It is worth noting that the Supreme Court previously overturned the development of a green zone in the Yunus Rajabiy mahalla of the Yakkasaray district of Tashkent, a decision that was met with a positive reaction.
