A video has gone viral on social media, sparking a new discussion about the real estate market and lifestyle in India by showcasing a luxury home in America priced at the equivalent of 60 million rupees.
Showcase of the Connecticut Home
An Indian woman residing in the US shared a video tour of her house, which she described as a home for a middle-class family. In this house, located on an acre plot, viewers were struck by its cost and amenities, prompting Indian users to compare it with the high property prices in their own cities.
In the video posted on Instagram, Sonal Choudhary gave a tour of her home in Connecticut. She began the showcase from the main road and the expansive front yard, then showed the garage, backyard, terrace, and gym. During the tour, she stated: 'Today I will show you what a middle-class family home looks like in America.'
Details of Purchase and the House
Sonal Choudhary mentioned that she and her family moved to America six years ago and purchased the property in 2023. She specified that the real estate is built on a plot slightly larger than one acre, and its current value is around 5–6 crore rupees. The total building area reaches 2200 square feet.
Demonstrating the backyard, she noted that there is enough open space for children's sports activities such as football and badminton. She also emphasized that the houses in this area are situated far apart, providing residents with a high degree of privacy. The video also featured the family terrace, home gym, winter living room converted from a sunroom, children's swing set, and a fireplace used in winter.
User Reactions on Social Media
Comments from Indian users under this video were very active, with many criticizing real estate prices in India. One user noted that technically, real estate in India is more expensive than in America. Another commenter pointed out that in the Juhu and Bandra areas of Mumbai, one can only buy a two-bedroom apartment for 5–6 crore rupees.
Other users expressed opinions on the price disparity: one wrote that for the same amount as the US house costs, an entire residential area complete with a grocery store could be built in India. Another person regretted that Indians do not get such a lifestyle due to high population density and noisy neighbors, noting the lack of peace, privacy, personal freedom, and boundaries. A third user speculated that a similar house in any second-tier city in India would cost at least 30–35 crore rupees.
