Waterlogging in X-ray ward of Rajnandgaon District Hospital due to heavy rain, public life affected in the city

Torrential rains continuing in the Satara district of Maharashtra state have caused widespread devastation. In the Jambhali valley, belonging to the Wai district, a record rainfall of 550 millimeters was recorded in the last 24 hours.

Flood Consequences and Erosion

As a result of these heavy rains, rivers, streams, and mountain waterfalls became violently active. The strong flow of water led to the washing away of fertile soil from hundreds of acres of agricultural land. Furthermore, many roads and bridges were flooded, seriously disrupting life throughout the region.

Local farmers suffered the most damage. The water flooded the fields, completely washing away the fertile layer, leaving behind only stones and large boulders. Due to the loss of soil, many small farms were completely destroyed. Moreover, some livestock that was in the fields was swept away by the strong water force, posing a serious income problem for the owners. Preliminary estimates indicate that farmers have incurred losses amounting to millions of rupees.

Disruption of Connection with the Outside World

The main bridge connecting the village of Jambhali and the tribal settlement was completely submerged due to the rain. The closure of numerous routes cut off the villages from the outside world. The current speed is so high that it has become difficult for people to leave their homes, creating an atmosphere of fear and anxiety throughout the area.

Official and Resident Response

Given the seriousness of the situation, Sonali Mitkari personally visited the affected villages amidst the floodwaters. She met with the local headman and residents to assess the situation. Immediately after, instructions were given to move the residents of the tribal settlement to safe places, such as a school or temple complex. The administration continues to monitor the situation closely, and relief efforts are actively underway.

During the visit, residents spoke about their hardships. Farmers stated that this heavy rain, which has come for the second consecutive year, undermined their livelihoods. They noted that last year, the same area also experienced mass crop destruction due to heavy rains. Therefore, concerned farmers appealed to the government to immediately assess the damage and provide appropriate compensation. At the same time, the administration, following warnings from the meteorological department, urged people to stay away from rivers and streams.
