SpaceXAI and Cursor plan to launch their first collaborative artificial intelligence (AI) model, with an initial forecast for this Wednesday (the 8th). However, according to a report from The Information, which was based on a memo sent to employees, the launch has been postponed to allow for improvements in the model's efficiency.
Advanced AI models are the main focus of the current sector growth. It is expected that the new model will be able to process data quickly, making it competitive in certain aspects against Anthropic's Opus 4.8 and OpenAI's GPT 5.5, as detailed in the report.
When contacted by Reuters, Cursor opted not to comment, and SpaceXAI did not provide an immediate response to the request for clarification.
In June, SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk, formalized the purchase of Anysphere, the company behind the popular AI programming agent Cursor. This deal, conducted entirely in stock, was valued at US$ 60 billion (equivalent to R$ 310.4 billion), aiming to strengthen the company's presence in the profitable corporate AI tools market.
Cursor is considered an important rival to both Anthropic and OpenAI but has faced expansion obstacles due to limited access to computational capacity. The expectation generated by the acquisition is that this will give SpaceXAI, formerly known as xAI, a more robust position in the AI programming niche, which has proven to be an area with great revenue generation potential. It is worth noting that xAI was acquired by SpaceX in February.
Additionally, SpaceX entered the Nasdaq-100 index this Tuesday, less than a month after its debut on the stock exchange, which occurred on June 12. This rapid inclusion in the index is due to revised Nasdaq rules intended for newly listed companies aiming to be part of widely monitored benchmarks.
