Cloud Rebuild is a feature introduced in Windows 11 that allows for a new and fully functional installation of the operating system through an online service. This method utilizes cloud capability to download both the Windows 11 image and the necessary drivers for the computer.
This feature has shown great utility in situations where a system reinstallation is necessary. In a personal example reported, after reinstalling Windows 11 to change the testing channel in the Windows Insider program, the device lacked audio due to missing drivers. Situations like this are common because often the latest drivers are only obtained after a clean installation and the initial execution of Windows Update, a process that can take several hours.
Cloud Rebuild solves this problem by using the cloud to simultaneously download the Windows 11 image and the specific drivers for the target device during reinstallation. Consequently, upon completing the procedure, the computer should be fully operational, eliminating the need for manual supplementation with separately downloaded drivers. This works similarly to having a custom system image, although without including applications or personal files, since the installation is done cleanly.
Currently, Cloud Rebuild is not officially available to all users. It has only been released to participants of the Windows Insider program, specifically in build 26300.8772. Although the feature was announced in 2025 and is becoming functional now, a general release is expected in the coming months, possibly by 2026.
When available on your computer, Cloud Rebuild mode can be accessed through the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). Within it, the functionality will be located under Troubleshooting / Recovery and Uninstall. WinRE can be automatically activated by Windows 11 itself in cases of boot failure, or it can be accessed manually by following the path: Start Menu / Settings / System / Recovery / Advanced startup / Restart now.
