Omoda & Jaecoo has revised the official power and torque data for the Jaecoo 7, 2027 version. The plug-in hybrid SUV will now be presented with 279 hp and 37 kgfm, compared to the previously disclosed 339 hp and 52 kgfm.
Change in Calculation Methodology
It is important to note that this change does not imply modifications to the mechanical assembly or the vehicle's performance. The change lies solely in the way the combined power of the system is calculated. Previously, the manufacturer directly summed the values of the 1.5 turbo gasoline engine, which generates 135 hp and 20.4 kgfm, with the two front electric motors, which together provide 204 hp and 31.6 kgfm.
Compliance with International Standards
With the update, the brand has begun adhering to United Nations (UN) Global Technical Regulation No. 21. According to the company, this new standard more accurately represents the real functioning of the powertrain. The old methodology assumed that the peak performance of all engines occurred simultaneously, whereas the international regulation considers that the combustion and electric powertrains do not reach their maximum values at the same time during use.
Practical and Market Impact
The system uses a dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) that prioritizes electric driving, engaging the gasoline engine only as a battery generator or to assist in acceleration. Mechanical losses inherent to the transmission also contribute to the difference between the gross sum and the recalibrated value. For the driver, the practical impact is nil, as performance, range, and consumption remain unchanged. The SUV continues to offer about 1,200 km of combined range and 79 km driven solely on electricity, according to the Inmetro cycle.
Global and Tax Context
This standardization was already in effect in other markets. In Europe, where the Jaecoo 7 was launched in 2024, it has always been advertised with 279 hp. The Philippines also required a revision in the vehicle's communication after the initial disclosure of higher figures. In Brazil, the Omoda 7, which shares the same mechanical assembly, was launched following this international standard. In addition to standardizing technical specifications, the revision brings a tax benefit: the brand states that it reduces the Green IPI rate applied to the model by 0.5 percentage points, thereby expanding the SUV's commercial margin. This adjustment occurs at a favorable time, given that from January to June 2026, Omoda & Jaecoo registered 16,805 registrations in the country, with the Jaecoo 7 being responsible for a record of 2,731 sales just in June.
