TIM has introduced TIM Play, a new audiovisual content streaming platform in Brazil, which offers live channels and movie rental options. Access costs range from R$ 9.90 to R$ 89.90 per month.
TIM Play Structure and Availability
The new service offers three subscription tiers. The Basic plan costs R$ 9.90 and provides access to movies. The Standard plan, for R$ 29.90, includes the basic features plus 16 open channels, such as Globo, SBT, Band, and Record. The Premium plan, priced at R$ 89.90, adds 62 closed channels focused on news, culture, lifestyle, and documentaries.
The platform was developed in collaboration with Mileto, a company that has been responsible for Oi TV since March 2025. Payment for TIM Play will be integrated directly into the user's phone bill. Currently, access is only available to postpaid and control plan customers, while prepaid users do not yet have access.
Competitive Strategy in the Market
Thompson Gomes, TIM's head of marketing, stated in an interview with Tecnoblog that the goal is to provide consumers with a more complete experience and compete with other telecommunications operators, specifically mentioning Vivo and Claro, which have similar platforms.
Gomes explained that the telecommunications market is undergoing a service consolidation process, and his studies indicate that customers who use multiple company products show greater loyalty, allowing TIM to reduce subscriber churn by 30% to 40%. He also mentioned that adding more services raises the customer's exit barrier.
Comparison with Competitors
In comparison, the Vivo TV service starts at R$ 45 per month, and Claro TV+ costs R$ 99.90 per month. Although the service mix may vary across each platform, Claro offers a more expensive option that includes Globoplay (Premium), Netflix, HBO Max, Apple TV, Amazon Prime, and Disney+ in a single subscription.
Currently, TIM Play does not offer free access to major streaming services, which are sold as separate add-ons. However, the head of marketing revealed that discussions are underway and that the platform will undergo rapid evolutions, including new packages and plans throughout the semester. Gomes emphasized that the idea for TIM Play arose from the constant search to solve customer needs, and the project took eight months from initial sketches to launch, following continuous testing to ensure quality.
