Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have opted to make the highly anticipated GTA 6 available exclusively in digital format, discarding the production of a physical disc version even after its launch.
Release Details
The title is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, with a standard edition cost of R$ 449.90. Although there were speculations that a CD might be made available later, an investigation by the Hollywood Reporter debunked these theories, indicating there are no plans for a disc version.
Despite the absence of a physical disc, the game packaging will contain a code intended for online redemption. Previously, there were rumors, including from a Polish website called PPE, suggesting that the fully digital launch would only be a temporary tactic to prevent spoiler leaks, with the disc version arriving in December.
Reason for Distribution Change
The main reason for this change in distribution strategy is linked to high production costs. Rockstar Games reportedly invested an estimated amount between US$ 1 billion (equivalent to R$ 5.2 billion) and US$ 1.5 billion (R$ 7.8 billion) during the 13 years of GTA 6 development.
To ensure profitability from the start, the company modified its distribution chain. According to data from the consultancy Kantan Games, in the traditional physical disc sales system, physical stores retain approximately 30% of the game's value, plus 5% allocated to manufacturing, printing, and logistics costs. By eliminating physical media, Rockstar and Take-Two can retain a larger share of the revenue.
Setting and New Features of the Game
The setting of GTA 6 will take place in the fictional state of Leonida, specifically in the city of Vice City, which is inspired by Miami. A highlight of the game will be the inclusion of a playable female protagonist, Lucia Caminos, who will partner with the character Jason Duval.
