As part of the campaign to combat food adulteration in Rajasthan under the slogan 'Clean Food, Strike Against Adulteration,' a major inspection was conducted at the Red Bull warehouse in Jaipur. Food Safety Department officials seized 53,256 cans of energy drink from the warehouse located in Vikey-ai (Vishwakarma industrial area).
Inspection Ordered by Management
The central team of the Food Safety and Drug Control Department inspected the premises of 'Maysers Adarsh Associates' on Vikey road on Tuesday. This action was organized based on the directive of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khinvasara.
Discovery of Misleading Claims
Dr. T. Shubhamangala, Commissioner of the Food Safety and Drug Control Department, reported that a team led by Additional Commissioner Bhagwat Singh took a sample of the 'Red Bull Energy' soft drink for analysis in accordance with the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSS Act) during the inspection. Joint Commissioner Dr. Vijay Prakash Sharma noted that the Red Bull cans contained claims such as 'Energy Drink' and 'Vitalizes Body and Mind.' According to the department, such statements fall under misleading advertising according to the directives of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
Next Steps and Warning
All collected samples have been sent to the state food laboratory for examination. Necessary legal action will be taken in accordance with food safety legislation regarding alleged misleading advertisements on labels after receiving the inspection results. The Food Safety Department urged the public to remain vigilant regarding products with false claims and to immediately report any complaints to the department for timely response. As per FSSAI regulations, Red Bull is sold in India as a 'Caffeinated Beverage,' but any claims on the label, such as 'Vitalizes Body and Mind,' may raise objections if they do not comply with regulatory norms.
