Fiat is celebrating half a century of its presence in Brazil with the launch of two limited special collections: the Toro pickup truck and the Fastback coupe SUV. These editions, named Fiat 50 Years Special Edition, will be limited to 550 units of each model and will start being available at dealerships from July 9th, although prices have not yet been announced by the manufacturer.
Features of the special editions
Both vehicles are based on their mild hybrid (MHEV) versions. The Toro 50 Years uses the Volcano Turbo 270 Flex configuration, which combines a 1.3L engine producing 176 hp and 27.5 kgfm with a 48V electric system, adding an extra 15.5 hp and 6.6 kgfm, powered by a 0.85 kWh lithium-ion battery. Fiat highlights this pickup as the first mild hybrid produced in the country.
Visually, the Toro receives the exclusive Maximum Steel paint, black roof, darkened wheels and grille, in addition to side decals, the colorful Fiat Flag, and a commemorative emblem. Internally, it features a 10-inch multimedia center, a driver assistance package (ADAS) that includes automatic braking and lane departure warning, and a special 'Welcome Cluster 50 Years' greeting on the dashboard. The finish is complemented by differentiated stitching, 'Fiat 50' embroidery, suede upholstery, numbered emblem, front parking sensor, electric adjustment for the driver's seat, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
Fastback 50 Years Details
The Fastback 50 Years starts with the Impetus version, equipped with the 1.0 turbo T200 engine, which generates 130 hp on ethanol and 125 hp on gasoline, along with the 12V MHEV system. This series includes a panoramic sunroof, exclusive decals, a commemorative emblem, a fully digital dashboard, and up to 10.1-inch multimedia with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. The set is completed by the Connect////Me connectivity package, which offers over 30 functionalities, and emergency braking and lane keeping assistance systems.
Mild Hybrid Technology and Market
It is important to note that MHEV technology refers to mild hybridization, where the electric motor only assists the combustion engine and does not move the wheels alone. Fiat claims that this system provides fuel consumption reduction of up to 12% in the Toro and up to 11.5% (in the gasoline version) in the Fastback, resulting in an emission reduction of nearly 11%. However, the company emphasizes that these benefits are more noticeable in urban use and may be marginal on highways. In the market, competitors are following this trend, such as Volkswagen, which plans to launch the Tukan pickup with a 48V option.
Manufacturer Statement
Frederico Battaglia, responsible for the Fiat and Abarth brands for South America, stated that these editions 'materialize everything that Fiat represents today.' The commemorative series celebrates the half-century since the Italian automaker arrived in Brazil, in 1976.
