The Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan, Yurabek Mirzamakhmudov, held a meeting with a delegation from the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KEIDANREN), led by Chairman Takeshi Hashimoto. During the negotiations, the parties discussed the further development of cooperation in the energy sector and the implementation of new joint projects.
The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Japan, Muksin Abdurakhmonov, as well as representatives from companies such as Shimizu Corporation, Sumitomo Corporation, Sojitz Corporation, Mizuho Bank, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries EMEA, Marubeni Corporation, and ITOCHU Corporation.
Participants emphasized that following the official visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Japan from December 18 to 20, 2025, bilateral interaction has reached a qualitatively new level. In their opinion, this visit served as an additional stimulus for developing the partnership, particularly contributing to increased Japanese investment in Uzbekistan's energy sector, especially in renewable energy projects.
The parties highly praised the results of long-term cooperation. According to the Ministry of Energy, 14 major energy projects have already been implemented in Uzbekistan with a total volume of 5.6 billion US dollars involving Japanese firms. Six more projects worth 2.6 billion dollars are currently under implementation, and seven promising projects totaling 7.7 billion dollars are being prepared.
During the meeting, special attention was paid to new areas of cooperation. Specifically, discussions covered the construction of main power transmission lines and substations using the EPC+F model, increasing energy efficiency through the electrification of gas transport system compressor stations, developing green hydrogen production technologies, creating infrastructure for electric vehicle charging, and implementing modern technical standards and advanced Japanese experience in energy efficiency.
Furthermore, participants reviewed issues related to integrating renewable energy sources into the national power grid, as well as personnel training and experience exchange in managing modern energy systems. At the conclusion of the negotiations, Uzbekistan and Japan reaffirmed their intention to continue strengthening strategic partnership in the energy sphere and ensuring the consistent implementation of mutually beneficial joint projects.
The Deputy Minister of Digital Technologies of Uzbekistan, Rustam Karimjanov, held a meeting with a delegation from the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren). The delegation was headed by Takeshi Hashimoto, Chairman of the Committee for Business Cooperation between Japan and CIS Countries.
The parties discussed opportunities to deepen interaction in the field of digital technologies, implement joint projects, and attract investments. Particular attention was paid to developing cooperation in the area of IT specialist training.
Given the high demand for qualified personnel in Japan, the participants exchanged views on training specialists in Uzbekistan who meet international standards. The development of these specialists' professional potential for entering the global labor market and increasing the export of domestic IT services to the Japanese market was also discussed.
The representatives of the Japanese delegation were provided with information about the opportunities created in Uzbekistan for building data centers, developing digital infrastructure, and implementing large investment projects in the technological sphere.
At the end of the meeting, the parties confirmed their readiness for the continuous development of practical cooperation in the fields of the digital economy, IT service export, creation of modern digital infrastructure, and human capital development.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Bakhtiyor Saidov, met on July 6 with Salim bin Mohammed Al-Malik, Director General of the Islamic Organization for Education, Science and Culture (ISESCO), who arrived in the country to participate in the opening ceremony of the First International Forum of Islamic Civilization.
During the negotiations, the parties reviewed practical issues concerning the further development of constructive dialogue and increasing cooperation between Uzbekistan and ISESCO in the fields of science, education, culture, and tourism.
Particular attention was paid to the implementation of the Action Plan, which establishes priority areas of interaction and provides for joint projects in the near future. The parties also expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation and confirmed their interest in further strengthening partnership relations in key areas of interaction.
The Ministry of Digital Technologies of the Republic of Uzbekistan intends to significantly expand its interaction with the leading Japanese corporation NEC. During bilateral negotiations, Deputy Head of the Ministry Zhakhongir Maksudov and Senior Vice President of the foreign technology company Teruyuki Nakajima analyzed the results of joint activities.
The parties paid special attention to diversifying areas of cooperation and studying the possibilities of integrating the latest Japanese digital platforms into various sectors of the national economy. Furthermore, the Uzbek side presented information on investment potential, including the regulatory framework and tax incentives, inviting partners to consider building high-tech data centers in the Karakalpakstan Republic. The delegations confirmed their readiness to support all launched joint programs and agreed to intensify work on innovative technological solutions.
