In modern homes, many people use water purifiers, or RO systems. However, maintaining the cleanliness of the device or filter where the water is stored is equally important for health. Since water is constantly in the filter, the internal parts can become contaminated. Green mold, yellow spots, and sticky grime often accumulate inside filters. This dirt not only worsens the taste of the water but can also lead to its contamination.
Chemical-free cleaning methods
If your filter shows signs of such contamination, you do not need expensive chemicals or specialists. You can completely clean mold and stubborn dirt in the filter in just a few minutes using only four items found in your kitchen. Below is the simplest and safest method for deep cleaning.
Required ingredients
The following components are needed for the procedure: white vinegar, baking soda, lemon juice, and rock salt or regular salt.
Step-by-step cleaning instructions
First, you must completely drain the water from the filter and disassemble all its parts, including the cartridge, tap, and screens. Then, mix four tablespoons of baking soda with half a cup of white vinegar in a bowl to form a paste. Apply this paste to the internal elements of the filter and to areas where mold has formed, and leave it for 10 minutes. The vinegar will help loosen the mold, and the baking soda will destroy bacteria.
After ten minutes, take a clean sponge or soft brush. Dampen it with a small amount of salt and lemon juice and gently scrub the filter. The roughness of the salt will easily remove mold and yellowing. Furthermore, mold often accumulates on the inside of the tap; to clean this area, use an old toothbrush dipped in baking soda and thoroughly clean the inside of the tap.
Afterward, rinse the entire filter thoroughly with clean warm water two or three times to completely remove the smell of vinegar and soda. Before refilling the filter, be sure to dry it well in the sun or in the air. Your filter will look brand new.
