Estonia and Ukraine have signed a historic agreement on cooperation in the field of drones. As Mihail wrote on social media, this represents significant progress in defense partnership between the two countries.
Agreement Details
This agreement will allow Estonian companies to use Ukrainian drone technologies. This will simultaneously strengthen the defense capabilities of the Baltic country. Mihail added that this enhances Estonia's security, opens new prospects for its defense industry, and aids in further support for Ukraine.
Ukraine's Role in Security
It was noted that Ukraine is transitioning from being solely a recipient of security to also becoming a provider of security for Europe. The agreement is part of the 'drone agreement' program through which Kyiv seeks to establish long-term partnerships with allied states. The goal of these partnerships is to promote the export of Ukrainian military technologies, joint weapon development, and exchange of knowledge in the field of defense.
Place and Context of Signing
The signing took place in Ankara, as part of the NATO Defense Industry Forum, which focuses on production, investment, and innovation in the defense sector. Lithuania joined this program before Estonia in May after the signing of an agreement by Estonian President Gitanas Nausėda, and Latvia joined the initiative in June thanks to Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs.
