Toyota has introduced a special edition of the Corolla Cross to the Japanese market, named the Corolla Cross Z “Adventure”. This version celebrates 60 years of the Corolla and incorporates a more off-road oriented look, arriving in the Japanese market on July 1st, along with a general equipment update for the entire SUV line in the country. It is important to note that this edition is restricted to Japan.
Design and Visual Features
One of the most notable elements of this new version is the front grille. Toyota used the front end from the combustion version sold in the United States and modified it by adding black trim and a darkened emblem, resulting in a distinct appearance compared to the rest of the Japanese lineup. The rugged appeal for trails is reinforced by the optional Z Adventure Set package, which displays the name “TOYOTA” in white lettering along the grille, replicating the style found on the Land Cruiser, the utility vehicle traditionally associated with the brand's off-road use.
Specifications and Options
According to Toyota, the special series comes equipped with underbody protectors with an aluminum-simulating finish, commemorative 60th-anniversary stickers applied to the front fenders, and 17-inch alloy wheels (17×6.5J) in matte gray, fitted with 215/60 R17 tires. The available color palette is limited and always paired with a black roof, including the shades Urban Khaki, Platinum White Pearl Mica, Mud Bath, and Black Mica. Inside, the vehicle features synthetic leather and fabric seats in Mineral color, complemented by Smoke Silver details on the steering wheel, gear knob, and dashboard.
Safety and Mechanical Improvements
The improvements also cover safety features. Toyota informed that the top-tier versions, HEV Z and HEV GR Sport, now include a heated steering wheel as standard and an expanded set of ADAS systems. This package includes blind-spot monitoring, safe exit alert, panoramic camera with a 'transparent floor' function, and autonomous braking during maneuvers, allowing identification of vehicles, pedestrians, and cross traffic when reversing.
The mechanical configuration remains unchanged. In Japan, the Corolla Cross is offered exclusively in the conventional hybrid version. The front configuration uses a 1.8L engine with 98 hp coupled with a 95 hp electric motor. In all-wheel drive variants, via the E-Four system, a second 41 hp electric motor is added to the rear axle.
Prices in the Japanese Market
Starting prices for the Japanese market begin around ¥ 3,613,500 (approximately R$ 115 thousand) for the front-wheel-drive version. The top-of-the-line GR Sport model costs about ¥ 4,077,700 (approximately R$ 130 thousand). The anniversary Z “Adventure” edition with the E-Four system is priced at approximately ¥ 3,921,500 (about R$ 125 thousand), and adding the Z Adventure Set optional package raises the total cost to nearly ¥ 4,218,500 (approximately R$ 135 thousand).
