Chabahar Administration Begins Restoration of Sorh Rig Historic District

Urban Construction Principles

Dorbin stated that the city council and the municipality strive to ensure that urban development projects combine infrastructure expansion with the preservation of local architecture. This guarantees that new construction aligns with the climate, cultural traditions, and architectural heritage of the region. Preserving local architectural traditions, he said, will help strengthen Chabahar's historical identity, improve the urban landscape, support tourism, and enhance residents' sense of belonging.

Within the plans, educational and cultural events are also provided to raise public awareness about the importance of protecting traditional architecture, historic quarters, and cultural heritage. Training courses are planned for architects, engineers, and residents.

Future Development Strategy

Dorbin concluded that Chabahar's development must be based on preserving its cultural assets and historical identity so that future generations can benefit from them. Located in Sistan and Baluchestan province in southeastern Iran, on the Gulf of Oman, Chabahar is the country's only oceanic port and free trade zone. Its name comes from the Persian phrase Chahar Bahar, meaning 'four springs,' reflecting the city's year-round mild climate. Chabahar also serves as a strategic hub for regional trade and is located approximately 170 km west of the Pakistani port city of Gwadar.
