The authorities of Chabahar have started the restoration of the Sorh Rig historic district. This initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at preserving the historical identity, cultural heritage, and local architecture of the southeastern port city of Iran.
Balancing Development and Heritage Preservation
Vahedbakhsh Dorbin, Chairman of the Chabahar City Council, emphasized that sustainable urban development requires finding a balance between implementing infrastructure projects and protecting the historical appearance and cultural assets of the city. He noted that Chabahar, as Iran's largest oceanic port and one of the oldest cities in the country's southeast, possesses valuable historical, cultural, and architectural assets that must be protected alongside urbanization.
District Restoration Program
The City Council, in collaboration with the municipality and other state structures, has launched programs designed to preserve, restore, and revitalize the city's historical and traditional quarters while supporting tourism and promoting Chabahar's cultural heritage. The restoration of the Sorh Rig historic district, which is one of Chabahar's oldest quarters, is among the key current projects.
