Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic announced contact with Virat Kohli regarding a possible trip to India. The tennis player would like to receive advice from the former captain on cricket batting technique.
Interest in Cricket and India
Djokovic expressed admiration for Indian cricketer Virat Kohli and stated his plans to visit India in the near future to play cricket with him. He noted that although cricket is not a popular sport in Serbia, some members of his team are British and enjoy the sport.
The tennis player added that he has been studying the game for the last ten to fifteen years, but he still needs to improve his skills in cricket. Djokovic hopes that Virat can help him with technique and bat swing. He emphasized his deep respect and admiration for Kohli and Indian cricket, expressing a desire to meet him in his home country.
Previous Interactions
Previously, at Wimbledon last year, Kohli attended Djokovic's match in the Round of 16 against Alex de Minaur from Australia. After this, Kohli shared his enthusiasm on social media, writing: 'What a match. For Gladiator Djokovic, it was just routine work.'
This week, Djokovic also expressed interest in playing one or two matches against Kohli. He stated on the JioStar channel: 'I would really like to play cricket and tennis with Kohli.' He continued that they are discussing a visit to India, and admitted that Virat is a global star, especially in India, where he is 'incredible.'
Wimbledon Achievements
In addition, on Sunday, Djokovic added another significant chapter to his brilliant career by becoming the most successful singles player in the tournament's history. He mentioned that Wimbledon is a tournament he has dreamed of since childhood. The victory of the seven-time champion over Roman Safiullin allowed him to surpass Roger Federer's record of 105 singles victories at Wimbledon. This success secured Djokovic his ninth consecutive quarterfinal appearance at Wimbledon and seventeenth in his impressive career.
Djokovic noted that much of his legacy is tied to his achievements at Wimbledon, and he has always spoken openly about it. He recalled dreaming of performing well and winning Wimbledon to become world number one, which he achieved in 2011. He called it an incredible journey—winning the tournament seven times and participating in numerous finals.
Future Plans at the Tournament
In the quarterfinals, Djokovic will face Felix Auger-Aliassime, and if he wins, he could potentially have a grand semifinal against reigning champion and world number one Jannik Sinner.
