In a major city in the Philippines, there has been a sharp increase of 265 percent in Covid-19 cases over the last three weeks. This has prompted local health authorities to strengthen public health measures and monitor the incidence of the disease.
Incidence Growth Data
The Epidemiology and Surveillance Division (ESD) of Quezon City, located near the capital Manila, reported a significant rise in confirmed Covid-19 cases. The number increased from 23 cases on June 10 to 84 cases by July 1. A total of 146 cases have been registered in Quezon City this year.
Case Distribution
According to the city's epidemiological center, most infections are concentrated in District 4, while other cases were recorded in District 1. Children aged 14 and under constitute the largest group of patients. There was also a higher number of infections among women—66 cases, accounting for 62 percent, compared to 41 cases or 38 percent among men.
Official Stance of Authorities
Authorities stated that they are closely monitoring the situation to promptly detect any potential clusters of cases. ESD Head, Dr. Rolly Cruz, reminded residents that Covid-19 has not been eradicated and continues to pose a threat to public safety and health. Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte also emphasized that the local government will remain vigilant and track disease trends.
