The capital city of Delhi is currently facing unusual weather. Even after the monsoon precipitation, the daytime felt temperature reached 49.1 degrees Celsius. Residents are forced to sweat even indoors.
Reasons for the high perceived heat
According to the meteorological service, this situation is primarily caused by high humidity. On Monday, the maximum temperature in Delhi was 38.6 degrees Celsius, which is two degrees above normal. However, by 2:30 PM, the felt temperature rose to 49.1 degrees. The felt temperature is an indicator that arises due to humidity, because with a high moisture content, sweat does not evaporate, and the body does not receive cooling, which significantly intensifies the feeling of heat.
Rainfall and Humidity Status
The meteorological service had predicted light or moderate rain for Monday night. Some areas recorded 1-4 mm of precipitation, but no rain was observed at the Safdarjung main post. Despite the rain, the humidity level remained very high, exceeding 70-80%. The combination of warm air and vapor led to an intensification of the heat.
