Residents of the Hot Bay neighborhood have opposed the project for a new shopping center on Princess Street, stating that they were not properly notified. They warn that this development could irreversibly change the character of their community.
Details of the Proposed Project
The proposed construction involves converting part of land currently zoned as rural into a mixed-use zone. This zone would accommodate a shopping center, transportation infrastructure, and utilities.
The application includes changing the zoning of the site to General Business, Transportation, and Utilities, as well as dividing it into four parts. Furthermore, permission is requested for several deviations from current building codes, such as reducing setbacks for parking lots and buildings, increasing roadway width, and allowing the ground level to be raised above four meters.
Public and Transportation Concerns
The residents' dissatisfaction is not only due to the scale of the proposal. Residents claim they were never properly consulted, and the lack of meaningful public participation left many caught off guard by a development that they believe will have serious consequences for the surrounding area.
