Just as death is inevitable after birth, the change of eras is an undeniable truth. In the sacred texts of Hinduism, time is divided into four yugas: Satya Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dwapara Yuga, and Kali Yuga. We currently live in Kali Yuga. Our scriptures have previously described what human life will be like in Kali Yuga. Therefore, let us examine how Kali Yuga is described in the Shiva Purana.
Description of Kali Yuga in the Shiva Purana
A detailed description of Kali Yuga is contained in the Shiva Purana, specifically in the first and second chapters of the Vidyeshwara Sahita. Through a dialogue between Suta and the sages, the beginning and end of Kali Yuga are described in detail. According to the Shiva Purana, when the harsh Kali Yuga arrives, people will turn away from righteous deeds and sink into vices. They will stop speaking the truth and will be occupied with criticizing others. The desire to appropriate others' property will grow, and the mind will become attached to other women. People will become aggressive and begin to consider their body as their soul. Man will become an atheist, devoid of qualities and possessing animalistic intellect. Dislike for parents will increase. Brahmins, driven by greed, will deviate from their duty and earn a living by selling Vedic knowledge. Knowledge will be used solely for gaining wealth, and people will be immersed in arrogance.
