Mobile internet cost in Brazil falls at the beginning of 2026, but data consumption increases

The beginning of 2026 was characterized by a decrease in the cost of mobile internet in Brazil, according to data released by Anatel in the first quarter. This specialized telecommunications survey indicates that the average price paid per gigabyte fell compared to the previous year.

Data consumption grows parallel to cost reduction

While the service became more accessible, there was a significant increase in the volume of data consumed by each subscriber, signaling a continuous expansion of mobile internet use across the national territory. The report also details regional disparities in both prices and consumption, in addition to presenting revenue indicators for operators and information on the fixed broadband market among major companies.

Fall in GB price and rise in mobile usage

The National Telecommunications Agency registered an approximate reduction of 10.93% in the average price of a gigabyte in mobile telephony during the first quarter of 2026, compared to the same period last year. The national average value dropped from R$ 6.13 to R$ 5.46.

Conversely, the average consumption per user progressed from 5.37 GB to 6.51 GB, corresponding to a growth of over 21% in the assessed period. The scenario showed state variations: the South Region presented the highest average prices, with Rio Grande do Sul standing out, where the GB reached R$ 7.12. Paraná and Santa Catarina were also above the general average. On the other hand, the lowest values were reported in Amazonas, Amapá, and Paraíba.

The Federal District stood out for the highest average consumption in the country, reaching 10.20 GB per user, while maintaining a price lower than the national average.

Operator revenue and service plans

The Anatel study indicated that the average revenue per user in mobile telephony was R$ 33.48 in the first quarter of 2026. This value rose to R$ 49.81 in postpaid plans and remained at R$ 12.12 in prepaid plans. The data also showed that certain federative units concentrate higher average billing, citing São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, and the Federal District among the national leaders.

Stability in fixed broadband

In the fixed broadband sector, the average price per gigabyte remained stable at R$ 0.25 among major operators, according to the report. Average consumption in this service also increased, albeit more modestly, rising from 379 GB to 384 GB per user annually. The average revenue from fixed broadband totaled R$ 95.49, with the Federal District recording the highest amount among the examined units, totaling R$ 128.02.
