The Makino bus station, located in Sakawa, Kochi Prefecture, was selected through a public proposal contest. This location is the hometown of Tomitaro Makino, a figure recognized as the father of Japanese botany.
Project Objective
To honor the legacy of Dr. Makino, whose name gave rise to the equipment, the project team decided to disregard the initial requirements and start from scratch. The main goal was to fully expose the beauty of the natural landscape of Sakawa, an area that Makino himself greatly appreciated.
City Reaction
The city mayor, who participated in the contest jury, later commented that the proposal had come to him in his dreams, demonstrating the deep alignment of the project with the spirit of the Sakawa community.
