The African Transformation Movement (ATM) has appealed to the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Social Development with an urgent demand to investigate the growing but insufficiently covered crisis concerning fathers being denied full access to their children.
Appeal to Parliament
In a letter dated July 6, 2026, addressed to the committee chairperson Bridget Masango, ATM leader Hon. Tandiswa Marau called on the committee to hold public hearings at the beginning of the Third Parliament term. She emphasized that this issue has been ignored by the legislative agenda for too long.
Marau noted that 'South Africa is facing a silent crisis that receives too little attention from lawmakers and policymakers.' The letter asserts that while significant attention is paid to protecting women and children, fewer efforts are directed towards the impact of this situation on children whose relationships with both parents are disrupted.
