Shri Ram Temple Trust in Ayodhya Denies Allegations of Theft of Valuable Donations, Presents Items

In response to claims regarding the disappearance of valuable items donated and brought to the Shri Ram Temple in Ayodhya, an important meeting of the Trust was held. This meeting lasted about three hours and was conducted for the first time on the temple complex grounds.

The Trust's and Treasurer's Position

Following the meeting, the Trust's treasurer, Swami Govind Deva Giri Maharaj, issued a statement regarding the entire dispute. He emphasized that all donated items are in complete safekeeping, and allegations of any items being missing are false. During a press conference, the Trust publicly displayed all items against which accusations of theft or disappearance had been made.

The conference featured the golden Ramcharit Manasa, footprints of Lord Rama, a necklace, and the Kaakbhushundi, which were the subject of the disputes. Previously, former IAS officer S. Lakshminarayanan publicly claimed that his family donated a gold-plated 'Ramcharit Manasa' worth about 50 million rupees to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirtha Kshetra Trust. He stated that this Ramcharit Manasa was displayed for pilgrims for some time.

However, it was later removed from display, and no clear information was provided about it. The former official also reported repeatedly requesting information from the temple administration and General Secretary Champat Rai but did not receive satisfactory answers. Govind Deva Giri stated that all donated items are under the control of the Trust, and claims of theft or disappearance have no factual basis. The Trust also announced that a committee has been formed to examine all circumstances of the case and present its report on further administrative actions.

The next Trust meeting is scheduled for July 22, by which time a detailed and final report from the special investigative team should be received. A decision on further measures will be made after receiving the report. The July 22 meeting will also discuss the appointment of administrative officials and decide on appointing some new officers and council members. Furthermore, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirtha Kshetra Trust accepted the resignations of General Secretary Champat Rai and Anil Mishra. Krishna Mohan was appointed as the interim General Secretary. Seven out of nine permanent members attended the meeting, including the Trust Chairman Nritya Gopal Das, while Champat Rai and Anil Mishra were absent. The meeting concluded around 6:30 PM.

Significant discoveries were made in the case of alleged theft of offerings in Ayodhya during the interrogation of suspect Avinash Shukla under police custody. According to police sources, after Avinash Shukla was shown surveillance footage from the last 45 days, he broke down and admitted to the continuous theft of offerings.

Investigation into the Network and Amount of Theft

The police are currently investigating the entire network, as well as determining the amount of stolen funds and the role of other involved individuals. During interrogations within the custody, the police consistently questioned Avinash Shukla, showing him video recordings from the temple premises spanning 45 days. The police claim that after seeing himself taking money from the offerings, Avinash allegedly admitted to committing this crime for a long time.

Revelation of How Stolen Money Was Used

Another major fact was revealed during the interrogation concerning the use of the stolen money. According to police information, Avinash stated that the stolen funds were used to purchase a Brezza car. However, to avoid suspicion, the car was purchased not in his name, but in the name of his brother Abhishek. The police note that Avinash claimed his brother is a government teacher, so purchasing the vehicle in his name would not raise any questions.
